Tuesday, June 29, 2021 -Kenya’s government has been given a whopping sh 14 billion to purchase Covid-19 vaccines so as to be able to open up the economy soon.
Just like the rest of the African countries, Kenya has been lagging behind in purchasing the vaccines perhaps due to poor planning or something else.
The bank stated in its press statement that the said funds will help the country to source for more vaccination drugs through the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team AVATT initiate and the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access COVAX facilities.
“It will also support the deployment of those vaccines by boosting Kenya’s cold chain storage capacity,” the statement read.
Kenya is therefore tasked with establishing 25 counties across the country, strengthen its capacity within the 36 sub counties where stores will be located and equip 1,777 health facilities with the new vaccines.
This grand from the World Bank has been well received by a section of Kenyans who however have urged the financier to monitor how the government is going to utilize the funds following increased cases of theft and plunder of public resources.
